Moore Wins Ogden Grand Prix Award
by JIM BUTTA
For the Wheeling News-Register

PARKERSBURG - Wheeling's Ricky Moore didn't have the race he had hoped to have on Saturday. But, the Wheeling Jesuit University assistant cross country and track coach still came away a winner.

An 11th place finish at the 19th News and Sentinel Half Marathon in a time of 1 hour, 7 minutes and 53 seconds was more than enough to lift the Mountain State product to the top of the Ogden Grand Prix Award.

The award, given for the first time on Saturday, is awarded to the top overall male and female runner and walker in both the open and Masters divisions in the Ogden 20K and News and Sentinel Half Marathon.

Moore, who captured second place in the Ogden 20K with a 1:04:18, finished with a combined time of 2 hours, 12 minutes and 11 secondsÑmore than 26 minutes faster than runner-up Michael McGee of Latrobe, Pa.Ñand wins the $100 prize.

"I'm a little disappointed with my showing today,'' said Moore. "But, you have to look at the facts and the conditions.''

McGee, who captured the Masters Divison on Saturday with a time of 1 hour, 21 minutes and 48 seconds, finished with a combined time of 2 hours, 38 minutes and 13 seconds. Third place went to Vienna, Ohio's Terry McCluskey with a 2:41:53.

The 43-year old McGee also came away with the top prize of $100 as the Masters Division champion in the Ogden Grand Prix with the 57-year old McCluskey taking home the $50 second prize.

Winning the female's division was Greencastle, Pa.-native Susan Graham-Gray. The legally blind runner finished fifth overall at the Ogden 20K with a time of 1 hour, 20 minutes and 1 second then followed that with an 11th place effort on Saturday (1:25:22).

Her combined time of 2 hours, 45 minutes and 23 seconds more than four minutes better than Gina McGee.

McGee, who placed seventh overall at Wheeling with a time of 1:23:19, was the 13th female to cross the finish line on Saturday with a time of 1:27:57.

Her combined effort was more than enough to capture the Masters Division over 49-year old Shelley Rolston of Uniontown, Pa., who combined for a 3:08.56.

In the race walk Williamstown's Brenda Pomrenke proved to be too tough for the rest of the field, capturing her first Ogden Grand Prix crown with a combined time of 4 hours, 45 minutes and 51 seconds.
Taking home the $50 first place prize in the men's division is 47-year-old Craig Baer of Fort Hill, Pa., who completed both races in 4 hours, 45 minutes and 56 seconds.

"Being a West Virginian it is always nice to win in front of the local fans,'' said Moore. "It's also very nice to see a company like Ogden continue to support the sport the way they have.''
