2005 Ogden Pre-Race Tab

Destination Weekend in Wheeling
Runners and walkers of all sizes and ages are set to take part in this weekend’s festivities and events that are highlighted by the 29th running of The Ogden Newspapers 20K Classic on Saturday morning in downtown Wheeling.

Ironmen Still Going Strong
Race Director Howard Corcoran calls the members of the Ogden Ironmen Club – runners who have started and finished all 28 previous Ogden Newspapers 20K Classics – the backbone and foundation of this very special event.

The Big Day is Here
Nearly every one of us has a calendar hanging on a wall somewhere in our house or apartment, that’s not really how we note our passage through time.

Team Cup Joins Race Day Events
Road racing, in its simplicity, is an individual sport. It’s a grueling activity that pits the runner against the road, the elements, and his fellow competitors. But for the 29th edition of the Ogden Newspapers 20K Classic, race director Howard Corcoran and his fellow committee members decided to add a team element to the race.

Ten New Members to Join "Hall"
The Ogden Newspapers 20K Classic’s Hall of Fame membership will swell to 21 Saturday following official induction ceremonies at WesBanco Arena for 10 of the race’s long-time participants plus the City of Wheeling, which is being honored for its support and contributions to the success of this event.

Flat and Fast, Ogden 5K Course Is Competitive
Very flat, scenic and highly-competitive are among the best ways to describe the course for the 5K Run and Walk division of this year’s Ogden Newspapers Classic.

W.A.T.C.H. Center Helping Out
Days before last year’s Ogden Newspapers 20K Classic, race director Howard Corcoran had himself a bit of a problem. With just four days remaining until race day, Corcoran had approximately 25 of the hundreds of race packets needed for the runners and walkers competing in the various events during race weekend.

Local Runners Have Fared Well
Many of the local runners and walkers who reaped their share of the glory in the 2004 Ogden Newspapers 20K Classic Run and Walk, will be trying for a repeat performance on Saturday morning.

Tiny Tot Trot Kicks Off Events
On your mark. Get set for another great evening of family fun. Tomorrow night, at the sound of ‘‘GO,’’ approximately 200 tiny tots will dash to the finish line of the Ogden Tiny Tot Trot.

Employees Busy During Race Week
Just like a NASCAR driver needs the combined knowledge and skills of a whole host of team members to put him in the lead, the Ogden Newspapers 20K Classic could not run such a successful race without the dedicated support of the employees of its flagship papers, The Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register.

Hospital Donates Time and Resources
Wheeling Hospital is once again providing not only resources for the Ogden Newspapers 20K Classic Run and Walk but also providing the time of their employees to aid athletes as they participate and finish the race.

New Additions at the Finish Line
The Ogden Newspapers 20K Classic already is the top racing event in the Ohio Valley. Still, race organizers felt felt there was room for improvement for the 29th edition of the annual race.
