Tiny Tot Trot Kicks Off Events
by KATHY FULLER
Ohio Valley Parent

On your mark.

Get set for another great evening of family fun.

Tomorrow night, at the sound of ‘‘GO,’’ approximately 200 tiny tots will dash to the finish line of the Ogden Tiny Tot Trot.

This annual event, sponsored by Ohio Valley Parent magazine, is the kick-off race for the Ogden Newspapers 20K Classic, which will take place Saturday morning.

Held on the last 100 yards of the 20K Classic, the Tiny Tot Trot is a non-competitive run for youngsters ages 5 and under. It’s the only race around that makes everyone a winner. Each participant will wear the same race number – No. 1 – and will receive an award medal at the finish line.

This inclusive event encourages even the youngest members of the community to be a part of the excitement surrounding the 20K Classic. The environment at the Friday night events is both festive and inspiring.

Local mascots interact with the children, balloons and refreshments are to be provided and the fans will line the streets to cheer for the youngsters as travel the short course.

All this creates an electricity in the air that exhilarates the youngsters and spectators alike.

The Tiny Tot Trot is also a family event in which parents are encouraged to lace up their sneakers and run with their children.

At registration, each participant will receive a race packet which includes a sports bottle, a magnetic picture frame and copies of Summer Survival Guide and Ohio Valley Parent magazine.

Beginning at 6:30 p.m., the mascots from the Ohio Valley Greyhounds, Wheeling Nailers and The Intelligencer will entertain the trotters and lead them in warmup exercises before the run.

Upon finishing the event, participants will receive an award medal. All runners in both the Tiny Tot Trot and the Ogden Fun Run, which is another non-competitive event for children 12 and under, will be treated to soft drinks, courtesy of Pepsi; Pizza, from Domino’s and cookies, from Eat ’N Park.

The schedule of events for Friday night is as follows:

It begins and ends in the area adjacent to WesBanco Arena in downtown Wheeling.

7 p.m. – Ogden Fun Run – non-competitive mile run for ages 12 and under. It begins at the top of Wheeling Hill (transportation will be provided from WesBanco Arena to the top of Wheeling Hill from 5:45 p.m. until 6:45 p.m.
