Though the numbers the runners and walkers wear on their outfits are assigned randomly, you have to figure it was more than just a coincidence that Wellsville native Barb Kornbau drew No. 901 for Saturday's Ogden Newspapers 20K Walk, the first number possible for a walker.
Pa. Man Takes First in 20K Walk
Monroeville, Pa. resident Don Slusser hadn't competed in the walk division of The Ogden Newspapers 20K Run and Walk since 2000. That was when the then 48-year old finished third overall in a time of 1:58:48. Steve Bence of Penn Hills (Pa.) Township and Bobbi Jo Chapman of Charleston were the top two finishers in the 20K Walk.
Ogle Completes "Double" in Ogden 5K
Sarah Ogle finished her competitive running season in style Saturday- as the overall female winner of the Ogden 5K. Ogle, a native of St. Albans, W.Va., crossed the finish line after touring the rain-soaked streets of Wheeling in 18:15, finishing ninth overall out of a 197-runner field.
New Class of Hall of Famers Inducted
Tom Fleming at one time was among America's greatest road racing stars. He twice won both the Boston and New York City Marathons and has been honored on numerous occasions throughout his outstanding career.
Ogden Mile Winner Captures 5K Run Title
Less than 24 hours after an impressive performance in winning the Ogden Mile on Friday night, Romania native Ovidiu Olteanu came back Saturday and shattered a record established last year in the inaugural 5K Run and Walk held in Wheeling.
Wheeling Woman Wins 5K Event
A Wheeling woman earned her first overall victory Saturday in the Ogden Newspapers 5K Run and Walk, facing less than favorable conditions and a race restart. A steady drizzle that became heavy at times plagued the morning event, which started at 8:15 a.m. But while spectators found themselves cold and wet, participants said it was an enjoyable race despite the weather.
