Peter and Jeannette Boyd of Union City, Pa., took the men’s and women’s top spots for the Ogden 5K Run, finishing at 16:10 and 19:14 respectively.
“This was a great course,” said Peter Boyd, 31, although he added that the weather was a little muggy during the run.
“Sometimes we train together, but between work and family it’s hard,” Jennette said, adding that the couple has two children, meaning they often take turns and run separately.
Although, she said their family is very supportive and that they help watch the children when the couple wants to run together.
Jennette pointed out that this is the fourth race this year that the couple has won together, including races in Youngstown and Lakewood, Ohio and Murrysville and Edinboro, Pa.
Peter pointed out his wife’s time in the Ogden 5K has been her best this year.
“What makes it easier for us is that we have each other,” Jeanette said. “We’re each other’s greatest support.”
She said on those days that she doesn’t want to get out of bed, her husband helps her get up and do the run.
“Then when I come back, I thank him,” she said.
“We encourage each other, and we understand how each other feels.”
In last year’s 20K run, Peter finished seventh overall, and he said he had planned to run the 20K again this year.
However, he said around 6 a.m., he changed his mind and decided on the 5K instead.
“This course is nice. It’s one that you keep meaning to come back to every year,” Peter said.
This is Peter’s third time running the Ogden race, with his first time being in 1993.
The couple made the three-hour drive from their hometown Friday evening and stayed with friends in preparation for Saturday’s race. |
